It’s been a low-key kind of day. I’m caught up on all the news, particularly all the legal-political news. Got another night of good sleep and a morning lie-in besides.
But I’m still tired. Wedge and I prepared for a trip to Daleville late morning. We went in to pick up his resupply package, shop at the outfitter, get him a haircut, and do a thorough resupply at the grocery (both for the next few days and for our return to the trail). First, though, we grabbed Mexican food for lunch. There is a robot at the place in Daleville that brings out your food. Is it a timesaver? A ritual humiliation for the staff? Their facial expressions made me think it was more of the latter.
After a few hours shopping, we drove back and I fell asleep. That’s about it. There’ll be more heavy eating tonight. We’re going to prepare a breakfast casserole tonight for tomorrow to have something hot and eggy without too much effort in the morning.
It’s looking likely that Wedge and I will hike tomorrow. Then I’m going to take one last full day to spend here with Ben. Or maybe I’ll take tomorrow off too. Haven’t yet decided. I’ve been doing this (the thru-hiking thing I mean) for long enough that I try to avoid “dragging” myself back to trail before my body is ready. And that includes my brain.
Lately I’m noticing how much more stressful the in-town logistics have been for me than the actual hiking. It’s not all that surprising, but it still surprises me.
